Differences Between Men and Women in Relationships

There is a significant difference between talking at a woman as opposed to talking with a woman.  There is also a difference in hearing her and really listening to her.  Active communication is essential to the success of any relationship because nobody is a mind reader.  We need to be able to open up to each other in order to express concerns, hopes, likes, dislikes and generally appreciation for each other.

We all have things we want to improve about ourselves.  We all have our own insecurities, but when it comes to the person we love, we don’t pick and choose the parts of them we do or do not like.  Accept them as a whole and support them as they work on those things they want to improve.

There are many differences between men and women in relationships. Both in the way we are designed physically and the way we process things emotionally. Besides I’m sure you have noticed the way we view relationships is also different.  The main problem in a lot of relationships is that women don’t really know what men want.

While the differences between men and women in relationships may seem vast, it’s very simple when you break it down.  Once you can understand them you’ll have a much easier time understanding your guy and making your relationship even more special.

In general, for a woman, is the appeal of the relationship.  Women normally gravitate towards the idea of marriage and see this as highly appealing. An ideal relationship for a woman, is one where she feels connected and understood to her significant other. An ideal man is one who truly understands and respects her.

Men don’t have the same need for understanding as a woman. Rather, men like to feel acknowledged, respected and appreciated.  The ideal relationship for a man is one where he gets to feel like the man.  Men typically enjoys the role of being her Lion King and a giver, so for a man, the ideal woman is one who can happily receive. There is nothing sexier or more appealing to him than a happy woman who appreciates everything he has to offer.

Whilst men love to give, they don’t really understand what it is you really need and most relationships suffer. Problems arise from basic communication malfunctions where a woman goes about telling a man what she needs can be interpreted in the wrong way.

If your partner isn’t meeting your needs, there is a much better strategy to tell them what you want rather than constantly hammering what you don’t want and pointing out the ways in which he is failing to meet your needs.

For instance, instead of saying “why are you not answering my text/calls” you can turn it around by saying “I love it when we have brief conversations during the day, you make me feel important”.  Or if your partner is hardly home, rather than saying “you’re never home” you can say “I enjoy our moments when you’re home.  They are really precious to me”.

REMEMBER, he wants to make you feel happy.  The more appreciated or acknowledged he feels the more he will go out of his way to make this happen.

It is also worth noting that men respond to specific compliments much more than abstract ones.  For example, saying something like “Thank you for this lovely evening, it was really thoughtful of you” packs more of a punch than by saying “Thanks for tonight”.

These principles that have been outlined may seem straightforward and universally understood, yet often get completely ignored.  The biggest mistake most women make in relationships is assuming men think just like they do.
